The Katherine Dunham Cultural Center is located inside Martissant Park and houses a library with books, periodicals, computers and activities. It also has a large open air exhibit space that currently tells about the life of Katherine Dunham in photographs and biographical stories.
For fifty years, Haiti was the second home of Katherine Dunham, American anthropologist, dancer and choreographer who died in 2006. She was the owner of a hotel, Habitation Leclerc, located in the Martissant neighborhood and she lived on the adjoining property. Her estate was given to the Haitian state to become part of the urban Park of Martissant Park which FOKAL manages. Since early 2015, it showcases the Katherine Dunham Cultural Center.
Pay tribute to the legendary Katherine Dunham with a donation to the cultural center in her honor.
