The performance halls in the FOKAL cultural centers and galleries like Le Centre d'Art become gatherings of excitement, talent and hope with hip hop dancers, konpa musicians, poetry slams, art classes, and exhibits by Haitian art masters.
Arts/Culture is a major focal point for expressing social change and none expresses it better than the highly acclaimed Le Centre d'Art.
Cultural preservation is best illustrated in FOKAL's work to preserve the detailed cultural style of the Gingerbread district in Port au Prince. A local youth association, Akoustik Prod, working wth FOKAL came up with the concept of Atis nan Kay la (Artists in the House) where Gingerbread houses are a centerpiece in a curated musical procession in the vodou tradition (rara). Participants parade through the streets to select renovated Gingerbread houses where they are met by artists representing visual arts, dance, music and architecture. A truly unique experience that combines a multi-platform of arts, all in the name of social change.
