Thanks to the efforts of FOKAL with ISPAN (the National Institute for Landmark Preservation) and other partner institutions, the Gingerbread Houses in Port-au-Prince were named to the World Monuments Fund's Watch List in 2010 and 2012. This recognition was a unique opportunity to present to professionals and international organizations the urgency to rehabilitate these houses and preserve this original architectural heritage. After the 2010 earthquake, these houses, in addition to their elegance and uniqueness, sustained minimal damage but are still in need of restoration and preservation. FOKAL's Construction Job Training program provides some of the labor used in renovating these historic homes.
